The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Awiqli, the first once-weekly long-acting basal insulin for adults living with Type 2 diabetes — a development experts say could transform diabetes care and improve treatment compliance for millions worldwide.
The report, published in the ‘WebMD’ showed the new insulin reduces injections from seven times weekly to just once.
According to the report, the FDA approval followed clinical studies involving about 2,680 adults with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes.
Researchers found that the drug effectively lowered HbA1c — a major indicator of long-term blood sugar control. The authors described the approval as a major step toward easing the burden of diabetes management, especially for patients struggling with daily injections.
