A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osifo Stanley, has insisted on contesting the ruling party’s primary election with President Bola Tinubu, predicating his decision is based on the combined provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), and the party’s constitution.
Specifically, the Edoborn politician said the two documents guarantee his right to vie for the party’s presidential ticket, notwithstanding the prevailing endorsement of President Tinubu.
New Telegraph reports that, during the APC’s national convention in March, stakeholders, including Governors, and National Assembly members, had adopted President Tinubu as the sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
State chapters of the party, including Bauchi, Borno,Kebbi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ekiti, and Lagos, had also endorsed the President in quick succession. Speaking against this backdrop during a parley with journalists yesterday in Abuja, Osifo claimed that he had since made a request for the requisite account details, for payment purposes.
He said: “I believe strongly that we all have the right enjoy our constitutionallyguaranteed rights to run. “We have our party’s Constitution, we have our Nigerian Constitution.
“There is no part of our party that says that when people have endorsed, or when anyone has been endorsed, automatically becomes a candidate of the party.”
He maintained that: “There is no such law in our party Constitution. There is no such law in Nigeria that endorsement is a pathway to becoming the candidate.
