Court Remands Blogger In Prison Over Alleged Defamation Of Elumelu

Justice Ambrose Lew- is-Allagoa of a Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of a blogger, Nurenorue John Surpruchi, in prison over alleged defamation of the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mr Tony Elumelu.

The order was sequel to Surpruchi’s arraignment before the court on Friday by the police. The 19-yearold blogger was docked on a four-count charge bordering on cyberstalking, bulling and defaming of Elumelu.

The blogger however, denied the allegations upon his arraignment, following which the police prosecutor, A.G. Obi, informed the court of the prosecution’s readiness to proceed with the matter.

She however, said that she had just received a motion for bail early in the morning and would need time to study the motion and file appropriate response.

She consequently sought for a trial date, while also asking that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending the hearing of his bail motion.

In his response, defence lawyer, A. Edoh, confirmed the position of Obi, but pleaded for a short adjournment for the hearing of the bail application.
