The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate removal of all campaign billboards, banners and posters mounted on street lights, utility poles and major flyovers across the state as part of efforts to restore urban order and improve environmental aesthetics.
The directive was issued following a closed-door meeting between relevant government agencies and chairmen of political parties in the state.
The agencies involved include the Bauchi State Infrastructure Development and Maintenance Agency (BASIDMA), the Bauchi State Physical Planning and Development Board (BSPPDB), the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), and the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA).
Speaking after the meeting, General Manager of the Bauchi State Physical Planning and Development Board, Town Planner Muhammad Ibrahim, announced that political parties and their supporters have been given a one-week ultimatum to remove all campaign materials mounted on public infrastructure.
According to him, the deadline will run from June 4 to June 11, 2026. He explained that the exercise forms part of the state government’s urban renewal and regulatory compliance programme aimed at maintaining a cleaner and more organised environment.
Muhammad Ibrahim warned that enforcement teams would remove any campaign materials that remain in prohibited locations after the expiration of the deadline.
He urged residents and political stakeholders to comply with physical planning regulations and respect provisions of the Right of Way Act.
The official stressed that safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring a clean environment require collective responsibility, adding that violators risk prosecution and sanctions through mobile courts in accordance with existing laws.
