A governorship aspirant in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Barrister Safiyanu Garba Idris, has alleged irregularities and manipulation in the party’s governorship screening process in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 election.
Idris claimed that despite fulfilling the requirements for participation, including payment for nomination and expression of interest forms, some party officials worked against his aspiration.
Addressing journalists Monday in Bauchi, the aspirant said evidence of payment was forwarded to relevant party officials immediately after the transaction was completed.
“The money was paid directly into the party’s account and I have the receipt as evidence,” he stated.
He alleged that shortly after making payment, a circular was issued indicating that aspirants who failed to complete payment for forms would not be screened.
According to him, his payment was acknowledged before the deadline, yet his name was omitted from the final list of screened aspirants.
“I began to notice signs that some people were deliberately working against my aspiration,” he alleged.
Idris further questioned the emergence of Senator Shehu Buba Umar as the sole governorship candidate of the PRP shortly after defecting from the APC.
He maintained that the development raised concerns about transparency, internal democracy and fairness within the party.
The aspirant vowed to challenge the matter through constitutional and legal means, insisting that justice must prevail.
The PRP leadership has not officially responded to the allegations.
In a related development, some executives of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have announced the removal of the state party chairman over what they described as his non-involvement in the party’s activities in the state.
The executives made the announcement while addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Bauchi on Monday.
They also appointed the state party’s Youth Leader to oversee the affairs of the office with immediate effect.
Responding to questions from journalists on the decision, the executives alleged that the chairman had violated several sections of the party’s constitution, prompting their decision to remove him from office.
