Coalition of Concerned Stakeholders and Interest Groups in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency has rejected Hon. George Olawande Adegeye’s bid to seek a second term in the House of Representatives.

The Coalition said Adegeye fell short of expectations and does not deserve to stage a comeback to the green chamber.

In a statement jointly signed by the Convener, Comrade Adesiyan Adebola and Coalition’s Secretary Mrs Ekanem Edet, they alleged that Adegeye, fondly known as Omogeye instead of delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents had taken to claims of the National Assembly’s denial of opposition access to funding as a major reason for his none performance, while his other contemporaries are facilitating goodies for their people despite their political status.

The statement read: “The coalition of concerned stakeholders and interest groups across Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, comprising professional associations, youth bodies, women groups, community development leaders, religious stakeholders, market representatives, and civil society advocates, has unanimously rejected any attempt by Hon. George Olawande Adegeye, the outgoing member representing Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, to seek a second term in office.

“Our decision was informed by a strategic consultative meeting convened to critically assess the state of representation and developmental impact of the current lawmaker on the constituency.

“We are disappointed by the glaring absence of impactful representation, visible constituency projects, strategic empowerment initiatives, and effective legislative advocacy expected from a federal lawmaker entrusted with the mandate of the people.

“Particularly disturbing to the constituents is the repeated public justification by Hon. Olawande that he has allegedly been denied access to funding due to his opposition status in the National Assembly.

“We perceived the explanation as both weak and unacceptable, as there are several opposition lawmakers across Nigeria, including Lagos State, who have continued to attract meaningful projects, facilitate empowerment schemes, and effectively represent their people despite similar political realities.

“We want to state that the coalition maintained that representation is fundamentally about competence, strategic engagement, influence, and commitment to constituents and not excuses.

“It is however, our resolution that we will explore all lawful and constitutional means, including possible legal actions and formal petitions to relevant authorities, to demand a comprehensive account of his stewardship and legislative contributions during his tenure.

“We the people of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency insist that the 2027 general election must usher in purposeful, accountable, and people-driven representation.

“Hon. Adegeye is therefore strongly advised to desist from entertaining any second-term ambition and allow competent, visionary, and result-oriented individuals to emerge in the collective interest of the constituency. Amuwo Odofin deserves effective representation, not excuses.”
