AGF Tasks IGP To Engage Oyedele On Release Of Force Outstanding Funds

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has urged Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to sustain engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Police.

Ogunjimi also assured the IGP that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would require substantial support from the Federal Government to ensure seamless police operations during the electoral process.

AGF, who spoke in Abuja while receiving a police delegation led by Disu on a courtesy visit to his office, notes that inadequate funding could hinder critical security operations.

A statement issued by the Director of Press at OAGF Mallam Bawa Mokwa said Ogunjimi commits to the prompt release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its operations and tackle insecurity across the country.

The AGF stated that the role of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the nation’s security challenges is enormous and requires adequate support to enable the Force to discharge its responsibilities effectively and professionally.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu, appealed to the AGF for the prompt release of the outstanding funds to enable the Police to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

He also highlighted the importance of adequate funding for the forthcoming off-season elections in June and August 2026, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would play a critical role in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
