The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial and House of Representatives Aspirants in Kano State have rejected a purported Primary Election conducted by the Party, alleging that the conduct was done without their consent as original Party Members who obtained Forms with high fees.
The aspirants insisted that the outcome of the party’s purported State, National Assembly and State Assembly primary elections was done secretly and has encountered widespread irregularities, calling on the National Leadership to intervene.
Addressing journalists in Kano, Tuesday, the Leader of the aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders, Ali Speaker and Alhaji Wada Masu, described the primary election process as lacking transparency, credibility and legitimacy.
According to him, claims that the primaries were conducted on May 21, 2026, are questionable, as all aspirants were reportedly participating in a screening exercise on the same day.
He argued that it would have been impossible to conduct valid primary elections while the mandatory screening process was still ongoing.
Masu further revealed that the party’s Elections Committee formally invited aspirants to a consensus meeting on May 22, 2026, a day after the alleged primaries.
He noted that the invitation clearly stated that if the consensus arrangement failed, primary elections would subsequently be conducted, a development he said contradicts claims that the primaries had already taken place.
“The sequence of events raises serious concerns about the integrity of the process and casts doubt on the credibility of the purported elections,” he said.
The aspirants maintained that the alleged irregularities threaten internal democracy and undermine the principles of fairness, justice and equal participation within the party.
They stressed that every aspirant deserves a level playing field and an opportunity to contest in accordance with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
Consequently, the group called on the ADC’s national leadership, including the National Chairman, National Secretary and National Organising Secretary, to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and ensure what they described as a lawful, transparent and lasting resolution.
They warned that failure to address the concerns could disenfranchise party members and trigger avoidable disputes ahead of future elections.
Despite their grievances, the aspirants emphasised that their actions were not targeted at any individual but were aimed at safeguarding democratic values, transparency and due process within the party.
They reaffirmed their commitment to the ADC and pledged to pursue their demands through lawful and legitimate channels, expressing confidence that the party’s national leadership would act swiftly to restore confidence in the electoral process and uphold justice for all stakeholders.
