The son of the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Adamu Abubakar, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Chanchaga Federal Constituency seat after winning the party’s House of Representatives primary election in Niger State.
The primary, held on Saturday, May 16, across the 11 wards, saw Abubakar secure a commanding lead over his opponents.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Mr Dan Islam, said Abubakar polled 30,650 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Mr Nmaa Ahmed, who garnered 1,271 votes. Another aspirant, Mr Shuaibu Mairago, scored 311 votes.

Islam subsequently declared Abubakar the winner of the exercise and returned him as the APC candidate for the House of Representatives election.
In the Lapai Federal Constituency contest, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmud also emerged victorious in the APC primary election.
The Returning Officer, Mr Ibrahim Usman, announced that Mahmud secured 8,559 votes, defeating Mr Sadiqu Mustapha, who polled 395 votes, and Mr Mahawiya Yusuf, who got 247 votes in the exercise held across the constituency’s 10 wards.
Usman thereafter declared Mahmud the winner and confirmed him as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
Similarly, Prof. Yakubu Auna won the APC primary election for the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency.
The APC primaries form part of the party’s preparations ahead of the forthcoming general elections across the country.
