The Elders’ Council of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era has rejected the alleged extension of tenure granted to the Alhaji Rasaq Balogun Arogundade, popularly known as Sadam-led executives, declaring the decision null and void.
The council said that the resolution did not represent the position of the entire body, insisting that only a handful of members participated in the meeting where the extension was announced.
Crisis has continued to trail the leadership of the Yoruba socio-cultural group following the expiration of the eight-year tenure of the Sadam-led executives on Friday, December 12, 2025.
Earlier in the week, some members of the Elders’ Council reportedly approved a tenure extension that would allow Sadam to continue in office and seek a third term.
Those said to have participated in the decision included Comrade Monsuru Akande, Acting Chairman of the council; Ranti Akande; Alhaji Adeshina Amusa; Lateef Ogungbayi; and Alhaji Sadam.
