Tiwa Savage Faces Online Criticism

Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has come under heavy criticism on social media after speaking about the recent school kidnapping incident in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The singer shared a video addressing the tragic event weeks after reports emerged that armed men abducted several schoolchildren from their school in the state.

A teacher was also reportedly killed during the attack, while disturbing clips from the incident later surfaced online.

In the video, Tiwa Savage revealed that she only became aware of the kidnapping after seeing singer Spyro discuss the issue online.

According to her, she was surprised the incident was not receiving enough attention on social media.

The mother of one explained that after coming across Spyro’s post, she contacted a few people to better understand the details of the incident.

She also mentioned seeing a post from content creator KieKie, where she discovered that the abduction had happened almost two weeks earlier.

“The kidnapping that happened in Oyo State, it was just yesterday that Spyro was speaking about it, that I heard about it. I tried to reach out to some people to know the background story because it was not trending. I saw KieKie’s post, and she said it was almost two weeks ago,” she said.

While speaking in the video, the singer appeared visibly disturbed as she shook her head and briefly lowered it into her hands.

Despite her emotional reaction, many social media users criticised her response and questioned why she was only speaking about the issue weeks later.

An X user identified as @Cxosunwa mocked the singer’s reaction and wrote:

“Please give this woman a kid choice award. If you can do this again and actually cry, we will consider giving you an Emmy or Oscar.”

Another user, @Iamfearlessking, expressed disbelief over Tiwa’s statement, saying:

“She say na yesterday she see am. News of close to 2 weeks now.”

Reacting to the singer’s video, @Tonyezalum commented:

“She couldn’t even say anything. You’ll know when you see them.”

Also sharing his opinion, @Totojaye compared the situation to old Nollywood performances and wrote:

“Have you watched the other hike that was crying in the camera, that one pass Liz Benson of those days?”

The reactions have generated heated debates online, with some users accusing the singer of being selective about national issues, while others defended her, arguing that not everyone reacts to tragic events in the same way.
