Police Assure Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa Residents Of Adequate Security

Following the security alert issued by the military authorities over a plot by Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements to hit civilian targets, the Acting Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 4 covering Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa States on Monday assured residents of those states of adequate security.

This was contained in a statement issued by AIG Dankombo F. Morris while felicitating with the Muslim faithful on the occasion of the Eid al-Kabir celebration in Makurdi, Benue State.

“The AIG reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free festive period across the Zone, in line with the constitutional mandate of the Force to protect lives and property.

“In furtherance of this commitment, the AIG has directed the Commissioners of Police in the three states under the Zone to deploy comprehensive operational strategies and proactive security measures aimed at safeguarding residents, worship centres, recreational locations, highways, and other public spaces throughout the celebration period.”

He also charged officers and men of the Zone to remain professional, civil, and responsive in the discharge of their duties.

AIG Dankwambo strongly warned against all forms of unprofessional conduct, particularly extortion, harassment of motorists, and other unethical practices capable of undermining public confidence in the Police, especially along highways and major roads.

While felicitating with Muslim faithful and all residents of the Zone on the occasion of the Eid al-Kabir celebration, AIG Dankombo F. Morris urged members of the public to remain vigilant, security-conscious, and law-abiding at all times.

He further encouraged citizens to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or other relevant security agencies.

The AIG, in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ayo Oluwaseun Martins, assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, remains fully prepared and committed to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the festive period.
