The Nasarawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has affirmed Dr David Ombugadu as its consensus gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Dr Ombugadu was the party’s flagbearer in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State.
Ombugadu also declared Hahaha Ohinoyi as his running mate during the gubernatorial primary election held on Sunday, 24 May, 2026 in Lafia
Addressing the party faithful at the event, the PDP National Officer who conducted the election, Abdulmaleek Danga, said the gathering was a formal fulfillment of party protocols, noting that all necessary steps had been carried out by the leadership at the local levels across the state.
Danaga said, “This is not a campaign programme; this is a primary election to elect our gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the PDP for Nasarawa State. But the work has been done by youth leaders and the party supporters from the various local governments. We only have one contestant for the position of Governor.
Following the unanimous affirmation of the candidate by the party members, Danga declared Ombugadu as duly elected by the authority vested in him by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
In his acceptance speech, Ombugadu expressed appreciation to the party faithful for affirming him as the gubernatorial candidate.
He commended seven sitting members of the State House of Assembly who have remained steadfast with the opposition party saying: “In the whole country, they are standing strong, representing this party as State Assembly members. I want to sincerely thank all of you.”
The gubernatorial candidate noted that his acceptance followed extensive consultations with key national and state party organs, who he also noted are pillars of support on the path for a single, focused agenda.
“We are going straight to work. We don’t have time because some people here have worn black clothes for the past three years they are not tired, and they said we will go with you. We are not going to give up until we take you to Government House,” he said.
In his remarks, Ombugadu’s running mate, Ohinoyi, charged the party structure to learn from the outcomes of the 2019 and 2023 electoral cycles to protect their votes in the forthcoming election.
”You are not fools now. If you are not fools now, what happened in the past will not happen again. The Government House is ours,” Ohinoyi noted.
He urged elders, women, and youth leaders to return to their various voting units immediately, commence grassroots network to ensure the victory at the party at the 2027 general elections.
