The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has inducted 36 newly appointed professors, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji urging them to broaden their intellectual horizons and uphold the highest standards of scholarship and service.
Speaking at a special ceremony, Oladiji described the rank of professor as the highest attainable level in academia and said it came with greater responsibility to the university and society.
“The advancement of any nation is largely dependent on the quality of its education,” she said.
“Researchers and scholars play a central role in driving national growth and development. Professors are critical stakeholders in the university system and must actively contribute to the administration, management, and overall progress of the institution.”
Oladiji charged the new professors not to confine themselves to their areas of specialization but to engage meaningfully with broader societal issues.
“Professors are highly revered in society and are often looked upon for guidance, leadership, and solutions to societal challenges,” she said.
She urged them to maintain commitment to teaching, mentorship, research, and service, while providing leadership within and outside the university.
Registrar Mr. Charles Adeleye said the attainment of the professorial rank reflected years of dedication, resilience, and service.
He commended the honourees for their contributions and said the ceremony had become an established tradition at FUTA to celebrate academic excellence and inspire younger academics.
Speaking on behalf of the new professors, Prof. Bukola Adetola thanked the university management, colleagues, families, and well-wishers for the recognition.
She said it would motivate the honourees to deepen their commitment to scholarship, mentorship, research, and service.
“We assure the university administration that the newly appointed professors will continue to contribute meaningfully to the growth, development, and advancement of the Federal University of Technology Akure and society at large,” Adetola said.
The event was organized to recognize the professors’ academic achievements, research output, and contributions to national development.
