NDC Constitutes 20-Member Nat’l Selection C’ttee Ahead Of Primaries


The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to oversee the screening and selection process for governorship and National Assembly aspirants ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.

According to the party, the move was part of its commitment to transparency, internal democracy and credible candidate selection.

In a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Hon. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC explained that the decision was approved by the National Leader of the party following recommendations by the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the statement, the committee is mandated to review, scrutinise and consider the reports and recommendations of the National Screening Committee and take appropriate decisions on the screening outcomes of all aspirants.

The committee is chaired by Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, while Hon. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu will serve as Secretary.

Other members include Comrade Babatunde Ali, Alhaji Sidi Abdul Bomi, Alhaji Mohammed Bakin Zuwo, Dr Danlami Arabs, Barr. Fredrick E. Owotorufa, Chief Teddy Obey, Chief Barnabas J. Ejisi, Pastor Dr. (Mrs.) Adedayo Ekong, Yunusa Tanko, Dr Moses Paul, Buba Galadima, H.E. Aminu Abdulsalam, Danladi Abdulhamid, Prof. Udenta Udenta, Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, Dudu Mamman Manuga, Dr Grace N. Onyekusiobi and Alhaji Shittu Mohammed.

The party appealed to aspirants, stakeholders and members for understanding and patience, noting the tight timelines for the completion of the exercise.

It stated that the process was aimed at promoting consensus-building and ensuring the emergence of widely acceptable candidates through a free, fair and credible mechanism.

The statement further clarified that only aspirants screened by the National Screening Committee and cleared by the National Selection Committee would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

The NDC also disclosed that where consensus fails among aspirants, the party would conduct direct primaries scheduled to be held between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with its guidelines.

The party announced that the National Selection Committee would be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, after which it would commence its inaugural meeting.

The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible and inclusive selection process aimed at strengthening party unity and positioning the party for electoral success.
