As the political instability continues unabated in Adamawa State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), critical stakeholders has called on President Bola Tinubu, to hold Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, accountable if he fail to win the 2027 general elections in the State.
Addressing Journalists on the current development in Yola, the Spokesperson of the group, Alhaji Mohammed Song lamented that Governor Fintiri’s plans to impose a Senatorial Candidate to the Central Senatorial Zone is an effort to pave way for the former vice president Atiku Abubakar to win.
According to Alhaji Song, Governor Fintiri who is now wearing double caps of APC and that of the PDP should know that “the people of the central zone has endorsed Alhaji Aliyu Abdulhameed Abbati, from Yola North Local Government as the candidate for the Senate seat”.
He recalled that “since the creation of Adamawa state, Yola North which serves as the State Headquarters has never produced a senator, saying this is the time for Yola North to produce one in the person of Alhaji Aliyu Abbati who is the only aspirant seeking the office”.
He noted that Alhaji Aliyu Abdulhameed Abbati is the only name in the Central Senatorial District that continues to resonate across communities, traditional circles, youth gatherings, and political discussions.
“For Governor Fintiri’s game plan to impose Senator Iyya Abbas who is presently aspiring for governorship of the State will spoil the chances of President Bola Tinubu’s victory”, and called on President to intervene immediately before the cold fight between Fintiri and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu will affect his victory in the state, he emphasized.
Alhaji Song further recalled that in 2015, “Fintiri led the anti-party campaign against Ribadu, when he was imposed on the PDP and Ribadu lost to APC, so the governor should know that the same will repeat if he imposed his stooge on central senatorial zone “.
Analysts believes that Abbati’s strength for his candidacy is the growing argument for political fairness toward Yola North with a 500,000-strong voter base.
Despite its political importance and large voting population, Abbati’s supporters argue that the local government has consistently supported leaders from other parts of the state without receiving equivalent opportunities in return.
However, the Governor who spoke on the issue, said the suspension of primaries in the Zone was as result of late arrival of election materials, claiming that the election was generally credible, adding that minor challenges recorded were due to human errors and were expected in such political processes.
Fintiri averred that, “at that
level, you expect reactions from people, describing those complaining as young and vibrant and particularly are inexperienced politicians who believed it would be easy to secure victory, but politics is not that way”.
He further stated that lessons learned from previous exercises would help improve future party primaries, assuring party members and residents of a more transparent and competitive process going forward.
Meanwhile, insiders strongly alleged that the senatorial primaries in the central zone could not hold due to the power play between fintiri and Ribadu to imposed their stooges on the people.
