PDP Zones 2027 Senate Ticket To Brass Constituency II

Leaders and stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa East Senatorial District have resolved to zone the party’s 2027 Senatorial ticket to Brass Constituency II and the 2031 ticket to Nembe Constituency II, after which zoning and rotation of the seat will cease from 2035.

The resolution was reached on Monday during a strategic meeting involving party leaders from Ogbia, Nembe, and Brass Local Government Areas at the Yenagoa residence of the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Alabh George Turnah, MON.

The meeting was presided over by the Bayelsa East PDP Vice Chairman, Andy West Majors.

The stakeholders said the decision was taken to strengthen justice, fairness, political inclusion, and balanced representation across the Senatorial District.

According to the leaders, the senatorial seat has rotated steadily among the various state constituencies in Bayelsa East since 1999.

A statement signed by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Media Assistant to the Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State, noted that the progression began with Senator Melford Okilo from Ogbia Constituency I, followed by Senator Inatimi Spiff from Brass Constituency I, and Senator Nimi Barigha Amange from Nembe Constituency I.

The rotation later returned to Ogbia through Senator Clever Ikisikpo of Ogbia Constituency III, moved to Brass with Senator Ben Murray-Bruce of Brass Constituency III, and then to Nembe through Senator Degi Ereminyo of Nembe Constituency III.

The current Senator representing the district, Senator Benson Agadaga, is from Ogbia Constituency II.

The stakeholders maintained that, in  line with the principles of equity and fairness, Brass Constituency II should produce the PDP Senatorial candidate in 2027, while Nembe Constituency II should take its turn in 2031.

They further resolved that from 2035 onward, the Bayelsa East Senatorial ticket should no longer be subjected to zoning, but rather be open to all aspirants based on competence, capacity, performance, and the ability to provide effective representation.

The leaders described the decision as the beginning of a new political phase focused on merit, development-driven leadership, and quality representation for the people of Bayelsa East Senatorial District.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to the unity and growth of the PDP in Bayelsa East and commended the leadership of Barrister Alabh George Turnah, MON, for promoting inclusiveness, stability, and purposeful leadership within the party.
