A member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Leke Abejide, has secured a sweeping victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Saturday Telegraph reports that Abejide won across all 34 wards in the constituency during the Direct primary exercise conducted in Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
Results collated from the three councils showed overwhelming support for the incumbent lawmaker as APC members turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.
Political observers in the constituency described the outcome as unprecedented, noting that the primary further reinforced confidence in the direct primary system as a reflection of the wishes of party members.

The exercise was reportedly conducted peacefully across the constituency, with party members queueing to cast their votes in what stakeholders described as a transparent and orderly process.
Speaking after the exercise at Takete Ide/Otafun Ward in Mopamuro Local Government Area, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, commended APC members for their conduct during the primary.
“You can see how excited party members are to exercise their rights to nominate candidates of the party for the general elections. It was hitch free, free and fair across Mopamuro Local Government Area,” he said.
Fanwo disclosed that Abejide polled 892 votes in the ward, while his challenger, Adejola Babagbemi, secured only two votes.
“In this Ward, Rt Hon. Leke Abejide scored 892 votes while his only challenger, Pastor Adejola Babagbemi scored 2 votes. It was the same trend across the 10 wards of Mopamuro Local Government Area,” he added.
The commissioner thanked party members for maintaining peace throughout the exercise.
“Our party members have spoken and their voices have been respected,” he stated.
Party leaders and stakeholders in Yagba East also praised the conduct of the exercise, describing the peaceful atmosphere and turnout as evidence of the confidence party members have in Abejide’s representation.
A party chieftain in the area, Emmanuel Obaro, described the result as “a reward for impactful representation and sustained grassroots engagement.”
Stakeholders in Yagba West similarly stated that the margin of victory reflected the lawmaker’s popularity and the unity of the APC in the constituency.
“This is beyond politics. The people have spoken loudly through the ballot. The turnout and results across the wards show that Rt Hon. Leke Abejide enjoys widespread support because of his performance and accessibility to the people,” a party official said.
Detailed ward results showed Abejide polling 401 votes in Ward 04 while his challenger failed to record any vote.
In Takete-Ide/Ofafun Ward 07, the incumbent secured 892 votes against two votes for Babagbemi.
At Makutu I Ward 07, Abejide polled 750 votes while his challenger again managed only two votes.
In Odo-Ere/Oke-Ere/Akata Ward, the lawmaker recorded 910 votes while Babagbemi failed to secure any vote.
Ward 09, regarded as a major political base linked to influential stakeholders including Idris Asiru, also delivered heavily for Abejide, who secured 1,120 votes against five votes for his challenger.
The results are expected to further strengthen Abejide’s position as the APC candidate for the Yagba Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
