‘I Left Wura Series Poorer Than Before’

Nollywood actor Lanre Adediwura has opened up on why he turned down a return offer to continue the popular  MultiChoice’s television series “Wura.

Speaking on TVC Entertainment interview, Adediwura revealed that he experienced financial difficulties during the series, but eventually found stability through YouTube creations.

He claimed that the show did not pay well and kept him from accepting other parts that would have furthered his career.

The actor recalled a six-month period in which he had little money after leaving the film, claiming to have spent more than he made.

According to him, although the role afforded him notoriety, he pointed out that other aspects of the production fell short of expectations.

He said, “I came out of ‘Wura’, and I was spending more than I made. I came out poorer. For six months after ‘Wura’, I could have practically gone to a neighbour for Garri. It was YouTube that got me the stability.

“The role gave me everything I wanted, yes, maybe the production itself did not give me what I wanted because everything promised was not fulfilled. This is the first time anyone has heard this from me.

He claimed that during the 11 months of filming, contractual limitations prevented him from working on other projects.

Adediwura gave the example of “House of Gaa,” saying that although he finished the translation for the show, he was unable to play Aláàfin Abiodun.

“The role deprived me of other things I could have done. When I was negotiating, they told me I should not worry about going to other productions. Throughout the 11 months of shooting, I could not go out for any production.

“The worst of them is ‘House of Gaa’. BAP reached out and I did the translation for House of Gaa from English to Yorùbá. I was supposed to play Aláàfin Abiodun”, he added.

He stated that his public comments would not result in legal issues, noting that he introduced original elements to the show that remained in use.

He added, “There can be no issues. I have nuances I created on the show that are still being used. ‘Friends for life’ cannot be found elsewhere.”
