A’Ibom CP Assures On Readiness To Safeguard Elections


The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has pledged the readiness of the command to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure safety throughout the coming general election.

The CP made the remarks when he received the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, at the Command Headquarters, Uyo.

During the visit, the Commissioner of Police emphasised the importance of synergy between the Police and the electoral commission, noting that both institutions play critical and complementary roles in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.

He stated that the Police fully understand and appreciate the vital role of ensuring that the votes of citizens count in every electoral process and, as such, will continue to uphold fairness, professionalism, and the rule of law.

The CP appreciated the cooperation and cordial relationship existing between the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and INEC, stressing that the shared objective remains the protection of citizens’ rights to vote and ensuring that every lawful vote counts.

In his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, commended the Commissioner of Police for the commendable work the Command is doing and expressed optimism that the visit would further strengthen the relationship between the Police and the electoral umpire in Akwa Ibom State.
