The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has distanced himself from the ordeals of some aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, who were disqualified by the party’s screening committee on Sunday, saying he is not a member of the party.
Wike spoke on Monday in Abuja after inspecting some road projects slated for commissioning to celebrate President Bola Tinubu‘s third anniversary.
While categorically stating that his “ Rainbow Coalition” in the state would determine the electoral victory of aspirants and candidates in the state, he said he cannot be involved in the internal affairs of the APC.
The Minister also said that he hasn’t seen the report of the committee disqualifying anyone and has not received any complaint from any aspirants.
He said, “ I’m not a member of APC, so I don’t know what’s happening at their screening.
“And I also know where they publish the results of the screening. So it will be difficult for me to comment. Even if they do, why would I comment? I don’t know the reasons they have.
“So, of course, our own party will still start their screening today, tomorrow. So that’s where you should ask me questions. What party is to me, not what I’ve got outside me.
“We’re not in the same party. So what do you want me to do? He has not reported to me that he has any problem. I’m not a native doctor. Neither am I a prophet. I’ve seen some things that I don’t know. So I don’t have any role to play here.
“That is the essence of the Rainbow Coalition. We’ll look at it. We’ll look at where we have the strength. We’ll look at where we don’t have the strength. And we’ll compare that. And we’re going to vote accordingly”, he added.
