Former President Goodluck Jonathan is likely to pick his presidential nomination form anytime this week.
Unconfirmed report said associates of the former president may obtain the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential nomination form on his behalf today.
A source close to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) faction of the party, however, confided in New Telegraph that the former president has already paid for the forms.
He said: “We were with him on Friday. He supposed to have picked the form on Friday. But as a former president, he has more inform than us; he told us to hold on. “I can’t say he is coming tomorrow (Monday). There is still a window. According to INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) timetable, he still has Thursday or Friday.
That is what I can tell you now. He may come Monday or Tuesday.” The source had last week dismissed the report that Jonathan would run on another political platform other than PDP, arguing that he is still a member of the party. “He registered with us; he is not going anywhere,” he said.
The suit challenging his eligibility to run for the presidency, having been sworn in as president twice, was heard last week and later adjourned. Jonathan had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking it to dismiss a suit seeking to stop him from contesting the 2027 election.
The former president, through his lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), said the suit filed by Abuja-based lawyer Johnmary Jideobi before Justice Peter Lifu, lacks merit, arguing that the matter had already been settled in previous court decisions up to the Court of Appeal. Jideobi is seeking a perpetual injunction restraining Jonathan from presenting himself as a presidential candidate.
