Sokoto Police Begin Tour To Improve Security In Banditry-Prone Communities

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has undertaken an operational tour of key Divisional Police Headquarters in line with the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Olatunji Disu directive to promote community-based policing initiatives and bolster security at police stations.

The tour covered the Gidan Madi, Gudu, Binji, and Wamakko Divisions, areas which recently experienced significant security challenges due to the activities of armed bandits and the Lakurawa group.

During the visits, CP Shaffa conducted on-the-spot inspections of station facilities, operational readiness, and the general welfare of personnel.

Addressing officers at each division, the Commissioner reiterated the IGP’s directives, emphasising the need for proactive and intelligence-led policing.

He issued a stern warning to all personnel to adhere strictly to security protocols, maintain maximum vigilance within their Areas of Responsibility, and remain alert to the tactics of criminal elements.

“The resurgence of armed banditry and the Lakurawa menace in the neighbouring state demands that we operate with the highest level of professionalism and community engagement,” CP Shaffa stated.

“You must prioritise the safety of your stations and the public we serve. There will be no tolerance for complacency.”

The tour underscores the Command’s commitment to restoring public confidence, enhancing police visibility, and fostering collaboration with local communities to gather actionable intelligence.

CP Shaffa further charged divisional officers to intensify patrols, secure critical infrastructure, and ensure that police stations themselves are not vulnerable to attacks.

The Sokoto State Command reaffirms its dedication to the IGP’s community policing vision and urges residents to continue cooperating with police by providing timely information on suspicious activities, according to a statement issued by Dsp Ahmad Rufa’i, PPRO Sokoto Command.
