The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to the South, while reserving the party’s 2031 presidential slot for the North.

The party made this announcement on Saturday during the party’s national convention, following a motion moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi.

The party delegates at the convention adopted the resolution through a voice vote, signalling the NDC’s early strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The move is expected to shape ongoing political alignments within the opposition coalition and influence consultations among key political figures ahead of the next general election.

The convention also ratified all members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) after a separate motion moved by Senator Victor Umeh.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments and coalition talks involving opposition leaders across the country.

The NDC has recently attracted attention following reports linking several prominent politicians to the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
