Ebonyi State Security Council on Monday lifted the curfew imposed on the Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.
The state security council had, on January 30, 2026, imposed a full-scale curfew on Amasiri following the killing and beheading of four persons by suspects allegedly linked to Amasiri.
Addressing a joint media briefing, the State Security Director E.Y Kolawole (Mrs), disclosed that minimal deployment of security agents will still be present at Amasiri to sustain the peace of the community.
Kolawole noted that suspects involved in the conflict have been apprehended.
Speaking in the same vein, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Ben Uruchi Odoh, said the lifting of the curfew was based on a series of remorseful letters written by the Amasiri people, which were accepted by the Okporojo community.
Uruchi restated that the government has equally restored the Amasiri Development Centre, which was earlier delisted by the government due to the conflict.
On the recent killing of the traditional ruler of Ikwo community, Eze Francis Igwe, the state deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation Tarzan Tsav, said the case has been investigated and concluded.
According to Tsav, “concerning the killing of the traditional ruler of Ikwo community, Eze Francis Igwe, the case has been investigated and concluded. The suspects would be charged in court in no distant time.”
The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that schools earlier shut down in the Amasiri community will be reopened immediately.
