Gbenga Daniel Seeks Re-Election As APC Endorses Abiodun For Senate

A fresh political contest is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State as the race for the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections take shape.

The current occupant of the seat, Gbenga Daniel, on Tuesday formally declared his intention to seek re-election, announcing that he has picked up his nomination and expression of interest forms under the APC platform.

Daniel said his decision is driven by a desire to continue providing effective and responsive representation for the people of Ogun East in the Nigerian Senate.

However, his re-election bid comes amid an earlier endorsement of the incumbent Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, by APC stakeholders in Ogun East as the party’s consensus candidate for the same senatorial seat.

Governor Abiodun, who is currently serving his second term in office, confirmed the endorsement following a stakeholders’ meeting on Teusday.

He also indicated that the party is aligning support for Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the next governor of Ogun State, while reaffirming commitment to delivering strong electoral backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The development sets the stage for a potential intra-party contest within the APC in Ogun East, as both a sitting senator seeking re-election and a sitting governor nearing the end of his tenure appear positioned for the same seat.
