Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed concern over the recent wave of killings and abductions across Nigeria.

In a statement on Tuesday addressing developments in multiple states including Katsina State, Adamawa State, Kaduna State, Benue State, Plateau State, and Kogi State, Obi lamented what he described as escalating insecurity and the loss of innocent lives within a short period.

According to him, the situation is a “damning indictment of leadership failure.”

He cited multiple tragic incidents, including reported killings in Katsina, Benue, and Adamawa states, the murder of an entire family in Plateau State, and the abduction of children in Kogi and Kaduna states.

According to him, these incidents highlight a growing pattern where citizens live in fear and human life is increasingly undervalued.

Obi stressed that the spate of violence goes beyond statistics, noting that victims are families and individuals whose lives have been abruptly cut short or disrupted.

He warned that the continued insecurity poses a serious threat to national development and stability.

Calling for urgent and decisive action, the former Anambra State governor questioned the effectiveness of leadership in addressing the crisis.

“This cannot continue. A nation cannot develop under the weight of such persistent insecurity and human tragedy. The normalisation of these horrors is itself a crisis. We must ask, with all sense of urgency and responsibility: where is the leadership? Where is the coordination, the competence, and the compassion required to confront this menace decisively?” he queried.

He also extended his condolences to affected families and called for the safe return of abducted children, emphasizing that a safer and more secure Nigeria is now an urgent necessity.
