Anioma State: Izu Anioma Backs Nwoko

Endorses Him For 11th Senate

The Izu Anioma Assembly, a socio-cultural association of Anioma people, Delta North of Delta State, has thrown its weight behind Senator Ned Nwoko, for geopolitical adjustment of the proposed Aniocha State to the South East geopolitical zone.

The socio-cultural association made up of traditional rulers, stakeholders and students also endorsed Nwoko for another term in the Senate.

This, they said, is a reward for his effort in the push for the creation of Anioma State.

A statement by Senator Ned Nwoko’s media team disclosed that the decision was reached at a technical committee meeting on the creation of Anioma State held at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ibusa in Oshimili North local government area.

According to the statement, the Obuzor of Ibusa, HRM Louis Nwaoboshi, who presided over the meeting, traced the agitation for Anioma State back to 1950, and expressed joy that successive generations have sustained the demand whenever constitutional opportunities emerge.

He commended Senator Nwoko for leveraging the current legislative window by sponsoring a bill for the creation of Anioma State, with Asaba proposed as the capital.

“This is a constitutional process which we, as a technical committee, are objectively piloting to fruition.

“Significant progress has been made, but the emergence of divisive politics is worrisome,” the monarch stated, and warned against the politicisation of the creation of the Anioma State movement.

The statement quotes the traditional ruler warning that politicising the state creation movement under his watch is unacceptable.

“The focus of all stakeholders must shift from party politics to the realisation of our age-long dream – Anioma State,” he added.

The meeting took a swipe at former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, for opposing the proposed alignment of Anioma State with the South-East.

Okowa, who has also declared interest in returning to the Senate, is reportedly advocating for the retention of Anioma State in the South-South geopolitical zone.

Izu Anioma, however, warned that history would judge harshly anyone found to be working against the realisation of Anioma State.

The meeting praised Senator Nwoko for his “productive representation” in the Senate and his sustained commitment to the Anioma State project.
