The Labour Party (LP) in Osun State has reinstated its commitment to grassroots democracy and people-centred governance following the successful conduct of its Ward, Local Government, and state congress.
The election which was held on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre, Dada Estate, Osogbo, brought together accredited delegates, aspirants, and party stakeholders and culminated in the emergence of new state executives tasked with steering the affairs of the party ahead of forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the event, the National Leader of the Labour Party, Comrade Lanre Fadahunsi, reaffirmed the legitimacy of Senator Nenadi Usman as the party’s Interim National Chairman, citing court pronouncements.
“The Labour Party is for the people. It is for the masses,” he said. “The workforce of Nigeria is the soul of the Labour Party, and by extension, the Nigerian people remain the foundation of this movement.”
Also addressing the gathering, Professor Oluwatosin Odeyemi, the incoming State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and Chairman of the NNPP in Osun State, charged party leaders to uphold integrity and accountability.
Odeyemi further urged members to expand the party’s base. “Go out and tell others about the party. Bring more people in. As the August 15 election approaches, members should unite and support whichever candidate the party presents,” he added, describing the newly elected leadership as “faithful and God-fearing.”
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Osun State Chairman of the Labour Party, Mustapha Adebayo Muideen, described the congress as a defining moment for the party in the state.
“Today, we are here to elect officers who will manage the affairs of the Labour Party in Osun State, and we are ready for the task ahead,” he said.
Muideen emphasised discipline and loyalty among members. “We must see the party as our only platform. Discipline is key, and we must align with the rules and regulations guiding the party. Loyalty is essential in everything we do,” he stated.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s electoral chances. “We are formidable and ready for the election. I am confident that whoever emerges as a candidate will carry the strength of the party and secure victory,” he added.
