MasterChef Nigeria debuts with 10 contestants for grand priz


The organisers of MasterChef Nigeria have unveiled 10 contestants who will compete for a N73m grand prize in the inaugural edition of the cooking reality show set to premiere on Sunday.

According to a statement, the show, described as a local adaptation of a globally acclaimed culinary competition, will air on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family from 26 April at 7:00 pm.

The organisers stated, “The kitchen is set, the stakes are high, and the journey to culinary greatness is about to begin for the ten diverse home cooks competing for a N73m prize on MasterChef Nigeria.”

They added that the contestants would make history as the first group to compete for the MasterChef Nigeria title, noting, “They will also make television history as the first-ever group vying for the coveted MasterChef Nigeria title.”

The organisers said the contestants were selected from different parts of the country and reflect a mix of professions, backgrounds, and culinary influences.

The contestants include Mr David Emmanuel, 24, from Magboro; Ms Demi Akingbe, 30, from Ikoyi; Mr Derry Nnonyelu, 29, from Ikeja; and Mr Fads Segun, 29, from Lagos.

Others are Ms Favy Bessan, 26, from Shomolu; Ms Isabella Adediji, 39, from Ikeja; Mr Loye Oyedotun, 31, from Abuja; and Mrs Margaret Akpan, 42, from Lagos.

The list is completed by Ms Pearl Agbajem, 30, from Lekki, and Ms Preye Fadase, 34, from Lagos.

Highlighting the diversity of the contestants, the organisers stated, “These ten home cooks bring a tapestry of backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences to the kitchen… showcasing Nigeria’s richness and gastronomic heritage.”

They explained that the competition would test not only culinary skills but also resilience and creativity under pressure.

“As these home cooks step into the iconic MasterChef kitchen, they will face high-pressure tasks designed to test not only their cooking skills but also their resilience, innovation, and ability to rise above the heat,” the organisers said.

The contestants’ dishes will be judged by Chef Eros and Chef Stone.

The organisers expressed confidence in the programme’s impact, stating, “With its unique blend of compelling storytelling, passionate participants, and culinary excellence, MasterChef Nigeria is poised to redefine food-focused television entertainment in the country.”

They also noted that the show is produced by Primedia Group and supported by sponsors including Power Oil, Indomie, Dano Milk, Malta Guinness, Sonia Tomato, Kiara Rice, and Golden Penny products.

The 13-episode series will air weekly on Sundays, with repeat broadcasts scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays.
