A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Ben Agir Une, was yesterday reportedly beaten to death by local vigilante members in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
Agir Une who was posted to the local government, was said to be a Batch A2 2025 Corps member. He was said to be left with few weeks to his final clearance and a month to his Passing Out Parade (POP) when he met his untimely death.
New Telegraph learnt that the deceased Corps member was apprehended on Wednesday by a night vigilante patrol in the local government over suspicion of being in possession of a stolen bike and was beaten to death.
Reports suggest that the victim was killed while attempting to cross the River Buruku into Gboko Town, despite reportedly identifying himself as a Corps member and providing identification.
Chairman of Buruku Local Government Area, Raymond Zege Aondoakura, who confirmed the incident, condemned the killing of the NYSC member and directed immediate prosecution of those involved.
It was gathered that the suspects involved in the killing are currently in police custody. New Telegraph reports that the incident has raised further concerns about the safety of corps members serving in various parts of the country.
