The winner of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Lockdown session, Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe, popularly known as Laycon, has said his mother would have died if he had not won the reality show.
In an interview on the Echo Room podcast, Laycon said his mother was very ill while he was in the house, and she was close to death by the time he left.
According to her, if he had finished second, he wouldn’t have had enough money to treat his mum, as he used the prize money he won for her treatment.
Laycon also addressed his entry into film after the show. He said producers approached him for roles because of his popularity from BBNaija, not because they had seen him act.

He said, “When I was in the house, my mom was ill. By the time I came out, my mom was close to death. I’m saying it categorically now, if I did not win that show, if I had gone and come out second, my mom would be dead now”.
“Before I went to film school, before I went back to university, so movie producers approached me, and I was like, oh, they told me how I did great in the house, they want me on this film, they want me on this project.
And then, as me, wey, I, they always sit down and go think about why this person came to meet me for this thing. Number one, you haven’t seen me act.
“So I don’t think it’s because of my acting talent. I think it’s because it’s me. And you just want your movie to do numbers”, he said.
While addressing people who said he moved into scriptwriting and film due to struggles in music, Laycon said people hold different opinions about his choices across music, film, and education.
“Everybody would always have their opinion as to why people do what they do. And people would be like, shey na only you, na you win big brother, na you dey do music, na you dey do film, na you dey go to school because you no do well for music. It’s what people think,” he concluded.
