Manchester City’s title hopes have suffered a setback following an injury to one of their key players.
Manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that midfielder Rodri will miss their important Premier League trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Wednesday night, April 22.
The Spanish international picked up a groin injury during City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, coming off in the 88th minutes of the match.
Guardiola Gives Update On Rodri’s Injury

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Guardiola admitted that he is uncertain how long 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri will be sidelined.
“I think for tomorrow he will not be ready… We will see for the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton or in 12 or 13 days,” he said.

The injury is a major setback for City’s title push, with Rodri’s control and influence in midfield playing a key role in keeping them in the Premier League race.
Rodri’s Injury And Its Impact
Concerns over Rodri’s fitness are heightened by the impact he has already had since returning from previous ACL and hamstring injuries, having played a key role in driving Manchester City back into the title race after they appeared to be slipping behind.
In his absence against Burnley, Pep Guardiola is expected to rely on Nico Gonzalez to anchor the midfield.
The 24-year-old had previously stepped in during Rodri’s earlier spell out this season and did a steady job, but he does not offer the same level of control, dominance, or ability to dictate games as the Spanish international.
This enforced change could offer a boost to Arsenal, with Rodri’s absence potentially weakening City’s rhythm during a crucial stage of the season and giving the Gunners valuable breathing space in their push for a first Premier League title since the 2003/04 “Invincibles” campaign.
