..says it’ll bring care, dignity to civil servants
Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has commissioned an Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) Help Desk at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, marking what has been described as a long-awaited integration of Federal workers into a structured compensation framework.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday in Abuja, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NSITF, Oluwaseun Faleye, said the initiative would institutionalise care, protection and dignity for civil servants, while strengthening social security delivery across the public service.
He said: “What we are witnessing today is a defining milestone, a step that transforms policy into presence and intention into impact,”
Faleye added that the desk signals government’s commitment to workers’ safety, welfare and security, as he noted that for the first time, civil servants in treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies would be systematically integrated into the Employees’ Compensation Scheme through a structured payroll framework.
“This is not just an operational improvement; it is a structural transformation. Every eligible civil servant is captured, every contribution accounted for, and every potential claim anchored on a reliable system.”
Faleye explained that the Help Desk would function as a one-stop hub providing information, advisory services, claims support, complaint resolution, compliance coordination and data-driven feedback to improve service delivery.
He added that the platform would also drive continuous sensitisation to ensure workers understand their rights, benefits and entitlements under the scheme.
The NSITF boss commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising social protection reforms and lauded the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, for supporting the initiative.
In her remarks, Walson-Jack described the development as “historic,” noting that it came 16 years after the conception of the scheme.
“This is a historic moment we are deeply grateful to Mr President for making workers’ welfare a priority,” she said.
The event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NSITF and the Office of the Head of Service to strengthen collaboration.
Faleye signed on behalf of NSITF, while the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Dr Abdul Garba, signed for the civil service.
The Help Desk is expected to improve access, transparency and efficiency in compensation processes, ensuring faster response to claims and better protection for federal workers.
