Southern ALGON APC Declares Support For Tinubu’s Re-Election

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Southern Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

The body made the statement at the first edition of the ALGON Southern Forum held in Lagos, with many of its members in attendance.

Speaking on behalf of the Association Chairman, ALGON for Lagos State and Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, said the decision of the body was to appreciate Tinubu’s ability to reposition the economy for better performance.

He said: “We are today announcing the formation of the ALGON Southern body. And the essence of that is to see how we can have a stronger collaboration among ourselves.

“Local Government plays a very critical role in the national governance structure.

“And so it has become very imperative for all leaders of Local Government across the South to come together and forge a common position on the issues that bother our nation.

“There are very few states that are not members of the progressive. Most of the southern states are now APC states.

“And so we, who are also ALGON Chairmen from the APC states, are using this forum to appreciate our president for what he has been doing in terms of repositioning this economy for better performance.

“We have seen a lot of reforms in the economy. We are aware of the local government autonomy, even though some of it has not been fully implemented in some states.

“But of course, we are hopeful that every state will eventually implement that. We are using this opportunity to express our appreciation. We are with the President 100 per cent for his second term.”

Announcing the endorsement, the ALGON Chairman in Imo State, Hon. Ikenna Adikibe, said the association is supporting the re-election of Tinubu in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained development.

He said: “After a thorough and objective assessment of the leadership and policies of the current administration, the association acknowledged the ongoing efforts and strides recorded in key sectors impacting national growth and grassroots development.

“Consequently, and in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained development, the association unanimously endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second term in office as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and programs that promote good governance, economic growth, and improved welfare for citizens at the grassroots.”
