Passage Of Catholic Bishop Of Abakaliki Painful


Governor Francis Nwifuru has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the third Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, who passed away on Friday, April 6 at the age of 60.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen, Nwifuru described the late Bishop as a revered spiritual leader whose life was marked by humility, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to God and humanity.

“It is with a heavy heart, yet with faith in God’s eternal promises that I received the news of the passing of His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu,” the statement stated.

Governor Nwifuru said the Bishop’s death marks the end of an era of profound spiritual guidance and moral leadership in Ebonyi State and beyond.

He noted that the late cleric, a native of Ededeagu Umuezeokohu in Ezza North Local Government Area, distinguished himself as a symbol of faith, a promoter of peace, and a strong advocate for justice, unity, and love.
