…13 Nat’l Delegates
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oyo State chapter, on Saturday, appointed a 45-member executive led by Hon. Jimoh Afees Adelowo through consensus arrangement during its state Congress.
The Congress, which climaxed the ward and local government congresses that had earlier taken place in the 33 Local councils of the state, was held at the Watershed Event Centre, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
The three-man Congress Committee saddled with the exercise from the national headquarters, Abuja, was led by a former member of the House of Representatives from Osun state, Rt. Hon. Olalekan Rasheed Afolabi.
The committee ratified the appointment of the executive members after reading their names out to the party loyalists. They were urged to work assiduously to ensure that the party wins the 2027 elections at all levels in the state, including federal.
Some of the other executive members appointed and endorsed were: the deputy chairman, Remi Abidogun; Oyo South senatorial district chairman, Alhaji Fatai Adelakun; Oyo Central senatorial chairman, Simeon Adegboye; Oyo North senatorial chairman, Alhaji Ajibade Khalid; Youth Leader, Daud Temitope; Legal Advisor, Oyebidi Shared; and the Chief Whip, Isiaka Tijani.
The 12 national delegates equally endorsed included: Hon. Kamil Akinlabi (former Rep member); Chief Adegoke Adegboyega, and Chief Bisi Ilaka, among others.
However, a parallel faction of the party reportedly held a public meeting of members at Oke Itunu area of Mokola in Ibadan at the same time on Saturday. It was led by the party’s Chairman, Alhaji Yinka Olona, who had been steering the affairs of the party before the coalition arrangement at the national level.
Olona convened the special Public Meeting hosted at the ADC State Secretariat, No. 9/11, Alawode Crescent, Behind State Veterinary Hospital Complex, Along Oke Itunu/Army Barracks Road, at Veterinary, Mokola, Ibadan.
The meeting, according to him, “is to receive and approve the harmonised report of the search committees who have been mandated to search for credible members to be nominated into the leadership structure of ADC at Wards, Local Government Areas, and State levels of the party in Oyo State”.
Reacting to the parallel faction, the consensus exco Chairman, Hon. Afees Adelowo, said that those at the Secretariat of the party “are just wasting their time. Their time has expired in March.
They have just gone away but will come back later. They are those who were there before we woke up the party.
Those recognised from Abuja are the ones here. We are here for an appointed congress directed from Abuja. The ADC is gradually becoming a movement. Reports from the 33 local governments are ready to be taken to Abuja.
So, as appointed Congress Committee from Abuja, we have sealed and approved the consensus appointment of the 45-member officials of our party in Oyo state”.
