The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Kemi Nandap, has ordered the immediate suspension of Comptrollers in charge of the Lagos-Seme Border over allegations bordering on extortion along the strategic corridor.
A statement signed on Friday by the Service’s spokesperson, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, said the action followed reports of alleged misconduct on social media.
The interdiction, the Service added, is pending conclusion of investigation, which is ongoing.
According to the Service, the development will enable investigators to identify all officers involved, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect.
“The attention of the Nigeria Immigration Service has been drawn to recent online reports alleging misconduct bordering on extortion by its personnel along the Lagos-Seme Border corridor”, Akinlabi stated.
“The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, unequivocally condemns the actions depicted in these reports as such conduct is unacceptable and stands in direct violation of the core values, ethics, and operational standards of the Service”, Akinlabi said.
In the meantime, the Service has reassured the general public, that it remains committed to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient services at all points of entry and exit.
It vowed serious sanctions against acts capable of undermining public trust, or tarnish the integrity of the Service.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains resolute in its mission to serve with integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration”, the statement concluded.
