Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has produced a commanding display to defeat Liverpool FC 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Parc des Princes, leaving the English side with a daunting task ahead of the return fixture at Anfield.
The hosts on Wednesday night asserted control early, dominating possession and dictating the tempo against a cautious Liverpool side set up with a defensive back five.
Their pressure paid off in the 11th minute when Desire Doue opened the scoring with a deflected strike that wrong-footed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool struggled to respond, failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match. Manager Arne Slot’s tactical approach, which included leaving key attacker Mohamed Salah out of the starting lineup, limited the visitors’ attacking threat and allowed PSG to dominate proceedings.
PSG doubled their advantage in the 65th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who produced a moment of individual brilliance, dribbling past defenders before calmly finishing to cap a superb attacking move.
Despite creating several additional chances, including efforts from Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes, the French champions were unable to extend their lead further. Liverpool, meanwhile, remained largely ineffective, with late substitutions failing to alter the flow of the game.
The result leaves PSG in a strong position heading into the second leg, while Liverpool must produce a significant turnaround at Anfield to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
