ASUU UNIJOS Begins Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid March Salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Jos branch (ASUU-UNIJOS), has declared a total and indefinite withdrawal of services following the non-payment of its members’ March 2026 salaries.

In a circular issued on Tuesday and signed by the branch Chairperson, Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, the union directed all members to abstain from lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings with immediate effect.

The directive, which takes effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2026, is in line with resolutions of the union’s National Executive Council and the branch congress.

The statement read in part, “After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of exams and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience.”

ASUU-UNIJOS expressed frustration over what it described as undue delay in salary payment, noting that the situation had disrupted industrial harmony within the institution.

According to the union, preliminary findings indicated that the delay was linked to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, despite the university’s bursary department completing its part of the payment process.

“It seems our patience is being taken for granted by those who are determined to frustrate industrial harmony,” the statement added.

The union further disclosed that a strike monitoring team had been activated to ensure full compliance with the directive across faculties and departments.
