The Senate Committees on Sports and Narcotics, yesterday, screened Alhaji Mainasara Illo fora appointment as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre (NADC). President Bola Tinubu, had on March 10, forwarded the nomination of Illo to the Senate for screening and possible confirmation for the appointment.
The presidential request, which was read during plenary by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio was immediately referred to for legislative scrutiny amid growing pressure on authorities to tackle doping scandals that have dented the country’s international reputation.
The legislators, during the screening session demonstrated overwhelming support, though with a reminder to the appointee that the stakes are high for his office, if confirmed.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Abdul Ningi, described Illo as a right choice by President Tinubu, stressing however, that expectations are beyond credentials
