Alleged N1.3bn Fraud: Lamido’s Fresh Arraignment Stalled

A fresh arraignment of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido yesterday at the Federal High Court Abuja in an alleged N1.3 billion corruption charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was aborted.

His two sons, Aminu Lamido and Mustapha Lamido, who allegedly committed the fraud with him through fictitious contract awards, could not be arraigned despite the presence of all their in court.

Their arraignment, earlier scheduled for March 13, failed to hold due to the absence of the defendants in court, with the late service of the trial notice on them being the issue.

However, at the resumed sitting on Wednesday, Lamido and his sons were already put in the dock for their plea to be taken, only for the EFCC to object to their arraignment. Chile Okoroma (SAN), who appeared for the EFCC objected to a fresh arraignment on the grounds that such would amount to a violation of the Supreme Court order.
