The Group Managing Director of Cornerstone Insurance, Stephen Alangbo, has dedicated the announcement of Cornerstone Insurance Plc as the 2025 Insurance Company of the Year to his team, crediting the achievement entirely to the dedication of the workforce.
The prestigious honour was conferred by Champion Newspapers during an elite ceremony held in Lagos, attended by titans of the Nigerian banking and energy sectors.
Receiving the plaque on behalf of the organisation, the GMD emphasised that the award belongs to the employees who drive the company’s mission daily.
“This recognition by Champion Newspapers is a strong affirmation of the dedication, resilience, and professionalism of our entire team at Cornerstone Insurance Plc,” Alangbo stated.
The award marks a significant milestone for Cornerstone, which was singled out for its aggressive digital transformation and its ability to deliver “need-based” products in an increasingly volatile economic landscape.
The GMD noted that the company’s success is rooted in its ability to adapt to the evolving needs of Nigerians through technology and empathy.
“We remain committed to building trust, delivering value, and continually improving our products and services to meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders,” he said.
Despite the accolade, Alangbo insisted that the company would not rest on its laurels. As the first insurer in Nigeria to offer a fully integrated online platform, Cornerstone intends to deepen its investment in human capital and technical infrastructure to maintain its market lead.
“As the insurance landscape evolves, we will continue to invest in innovation, technology, and talent to ensure we remain a dependable partner in protecting the dreams and aspirations of Nigerians,” he added.
Industry analysts present at the event noted that the win solidifies Cornerstone’s reputation as a “trusted partner in risk management”, particularly as it continues to expand its footprint across both general and life insurance sectors.
The recognition comes at a pivotal time for the Nigerian insurance industry, which is currently navigating a digital revolution and shifting regulatory requirements aimed at deepening market penetration.
Amidst economic volatility, Cornerstone’s focus on retail-driven, technology-backed solutions has set a benchmark for how local insurers can maintain growth while ensuring seamless claims processing for a more demanding consumer base.
Historically, Nigerian insurance relied heavily on corporate accounts by insuring big oil firms, including banks and factories. Cornerstone’s award is significant because it shifted focus to the retail market, the individual Nigerian.
