The Labour Party (LP) said normalcy has returned to its national secretariat after Tuesday’s attempt by suspected hired thugs to break in and vandalise the facility.
The Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Asogwa, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said some arrests have been made by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) concerning the attack, disclosing that the suspects are currently assisting the police with useful information that might lead to the identification of their sponsors.
“The party wishes to inform the general public that, through the timely intervention of the Nigerian Police, normalcy has since been restored at the party secretariat,” the statement added.
The interim National Chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, had on Tuesday assumed office at the Labour Party national secretariat at Utako district of Abuja.
But later that night, the facility was attacked by suspected thugs. Obiora Ifoh, former spokesperson of the Julius Abure faction that has been sacked by the court, in a statement, said the Abure leadership has recovered the party’s national secretariat.
Ifoh accused the police of aiding Senator Usman to take over the secretariat.
“The party will take inventory of the losses and outright theft that are observed resulting from the illegal invasion, after which a formal charge will be pressed.
“The party by this statement is assuring the public and the party members that normal party activities will resume tomorrow, being Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Utako headquarters of the party,” he claimed.
The statement by Usman, however, warned the former leadership of desecrating the secretariat under the cover of darkness, as the party would no longer tolerate acts of brigandage from within its ranks.
“The judgment of the Nigerian court is clear and unambiguous regarding the current leadership of the party.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has implemented this judgement by formally recognising Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Labour Party, respectively.
“Nigeria is a nation governed by laws, not a banana republic.
“Those rogue elements within the party who are bent on creating unnecessary hysteria are hereby advised to desist forthwith from doing so in the name of the Labour Party,” the interim National Chairman further warned.
She called on law enforcement agencies to go after the people who are allegedly using the name of the party to confuse and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“These charlatans, who purport to operate under the banner of the party without proper authority, are hereby warned that the party will no longer tolerate such criminality from any member, regardless of how highly placed,” Usman added.
