We’re Working Hard To Educate Nigerians On New Tax Laws –NOA

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu has said the agency is working hard to educate Nigerians on President Bola Tinubu’s new tax laws.

Speaking with New Telegraph in Morocco, Issa-Onilu said Nigerians beginning to understand the tax laws. He said: “One good thing about NOA is that we have our job clearly spelt out.

“We have been able to define Nigeria’s segment in terms of audience and the type of media to use for each category of audience. “The people you have spoken about, that is the work of the people we call COMOS. “Those are our local government staff and our state staff.

So, the local government staff that are called COMOS, COMOS is C-O-M-O, Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers. “So, the first thing is for NOA itself to be educated about the tax system. “Don’t forget that we are not staff of FIRS, now IRS.

So, we also first try to understand what this is all about. “So, we worked with the Presidential Committee on Tax Reform, and we got a grip of what this is all about.

“We’ve had interaction with them. The chairman, Taiwo Oloyede, led his team to NOA towards the end of 2025, where we interacted and we have a joint committee working together to ensure that we break it down into digestible messages that we can take to the nooks and crannies of this country.

“We have developed a lot of materials. And people are working as we speak at home, you know, ensuring that this is going on. “And you know that this kind of thing is not something you do in one day, one week, one month.

“It’s a continuous, you know, exercise. But one thing I must say is that so far, we have defeated those who are trying to read negative meaning into it. “Nigerians are beginning to know that it is not exactly what they said it is. Now they know that January 1st came and their money is still intact in their account.”
