Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Parallex Bank, Dr Olufemi Bakre, has been conferred with the Honourary Citizenship of the State of Atlanta, Georgia, United States, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s banking sector.
According to a statement, Bakre received honourary citizenship during the 2025 Trade Conference of the Pan African American Chamber of Commerce held in Atlanta.
The annual event, held in collaboration with EXIM Bank and the African Union, celebrates individuals driving impactful change in trade, investment, and socio-economic development across Africa and its diaspora.
In addition to honourary citizenship, PAAC also presented Bakre with the Excellence in Corporate Governance Award in acknowledgement of his “strong commitment to ethical leadership, transparency, and sound governance practices” in the Nigerian financial industry.
Chief Executive Officer of PAAC, Chuck Barlow, described the honours as “well deserved” and praised the Parallex Bank boss for his visionary leadership.
“Dr Bakre embodies the values of excellence and ethical leadership. His ability in steering Parallex Bank to global relevance, especially in promoting cross-border trade, is commendable,” Barlow stated.
The PAAC chief noted that Bakre’s integrity and commitment to innovation have positioned Parallex Bank as a key player in advancing international trade and investment.
Reacting to the recognition, Bakre described the awards as both humbling and motivating.
“I am truly honoured by this recognition. It inspires me to do more, not just for the growth of Parallex Bank, but for the advancement of Nigeria and Africa at large,” he said.
