CIIN seeks collaboration with diaspora insurance professionals

The President/Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Yetunde Ilori, has called for stronger collaboration with Nigerian insurance professionals based in the United Kingdom.

In a statement on Tuesday, the President emphasized the importance of engaging diaspora members in shaping the future of the Nigerian insurance industry in a recent virtual meeting.

According to the statement, this meeting, the first of its kind since Ilori’s investiture as the 52nd President, marked a step in the Institute’s effort to include members, regardless of location, in its activities.

The President acknowledged the support of the members during her investiture and reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring their relevance in the industry back home.

In her address, Ilori outlined her administration’s EPIC agenda Education, Professionalism, Institutional Recognition, and Capacity Building. She highlighted the recently launched e-learning platform, which is accessible on iOS and Android devices, urging diaspora members to take advantage of this resource for continuous professional development.

The Institute’s Registrar, Abimbola Tiamiyu, also addressed the meeting, stressing that members in the diaspora are integral to the success of the Institute. She reassured them that the Institute remains dedicated to meeting the interests of all members, both at home and abroad.

Additionally, UK-based members of the CIIN, including Olugbenga Fijimi and Mobolaji Davies, shared their experiences and expressed a desire to collaborate more closely with the Nigerian insurance sector.

Fijimi commended the Institute for its progress over the past few years, while Davies suggested creating a platform for sharing insights from the UK insurance market to improve practices in Nigeria.

The statement noted that Ilori concluded the meeting by announcing plans to move the CIIN Secretariat to a new site in Victoria Island, soliciting financial support from members to ensure the development of a more fitting office space. She also revealed that the official launch of the UK Chapter of CIIN will take place once all necessary documents are finalized.

The PUNCH reported that the President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Yetunde Ilori, has charged the board members of insurance companies to take bold steps to entrench corporate governance in their respective organisations.
