Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway ready for inauguration June – Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 56.10km Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway Section II (Umuahia–Aba) will be completed and ready for inauguration in June.

The minister gave the assurance in Aba while inspecting the progress of work on the project on Monday.

The News Agency of NIgeria reported that the minister commenced the inspection of the ongoing road projects in the South-East and South-South regions in January.

He said that he had directed the contractor handling the project that he had up until the end of April to complete the earthwork and every other thing and deliver the section of the carriageway.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the company, Arab Contractors (Nig.) Ltd., saying, “They are very available to receive and obey instructions.”

According to Umahi, it is only about two kilometres of earthwork and about four kilometres of asphalt work that are left and we will be done with this.

He said that President Bola Tinubu had made adequate funding provisions for the project in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

He commended Governor Alex Otti for heeding his call to ensure that traders and vehicles were cleared off the road.

The minister said the governor’s action had quickened the process of construction and would ensure the durability of the road.

He said that the people of South-East should deeply appreciate Tinubu for his projects in the zone, adding that no past president had done so for them.

Umahi said, “The entire Southeast must give Mr President 100 per cent of their votes in 2027 to appreciate him. I’m the one that is fit to ask for your votes because he has used me to work for you.

“What happened before will not happen again. God was speaking, but a lot of our Christian brothers would not hear.”
