CWT partners World Bank to empower women traders

Connecting One Million Women Who Trade initiative has partnered with the World Bank to empower one million women traders globally.

The initiative, according to a statement on Tuesday, was launched in Lagos to break gender barriers and foster economic growth through trade.

CWT said it will focus on creating a network of 10,000 business associations and cooperatives, aimed at providing resources, training, and capital to women entrepreneurs across Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean.

The firm stated that the initiative will connect women with expertise and training, increase access to capital, and drive economic growth by empowering women entrepreneurs.

“CWT recognises the immense potential of women in trade. By fostering collaboration, providing access to resources, and dismantling the silos that often hinder women’s advancement, this will create a robust ecosystem for female entrepreneurs to thrive, part of the statement read.

It added that the pre-launch phase began in October 2023 and has already engaged with many stakeholders, including the World Bank, George Washington University, Ronald Reagan Trade Centre, United Nations Headquarters, National Black Chambers of Commerce, Prosper Africa, and Amazon.

Speaking at the event, former Vice President of Liberia, Chief Jewel Taylor, said, “When women are empowered through trade, a synergy is created that boosts economies and strengthens communities.”

The launch also featured the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Blueprint Group and OAKWOOD Green Africa and the Women Business Collaborative.

The firm stated that the initiative has gained widespread support and is calling on organisations and individuals to join the movement to empower women in trade and create a more inclusive global economy.

The former Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell, also attended the launch and expressed her support.
