Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum yesterday donated N150 million to the families of three Lieutenant Colonels killed by Boko Haram.
The beneficiaries are the families of Lt. Col. Umar Farouq, Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu, and Lt. Col Aliyu Paiko. Zulum said the donation forms part of ongoing support to families of slain soldiers and those wounded in action. The governor also extended assistance to the families of volunteer forces killed in action.
The governor first visited the Iliyasu family in Abuja, where he was received by the deceased’s wives Na’ima and Rakiya. He expressed his condolences and paid tribute to the officer’s service to the nation.
Zulum said: “The late Iliyasu was a dedicated and committed servant of the nation whose contributions will not be forgotten.”
He then presented a cheque of N50 million to the family. Zulum subsequently travelled to Niger and Kano states, where he presented cheques of N50 million each to Paiko and Farouq’s families.
